Tetris Tips & Tricks
Fundamental Tips
1. Keep Your Stack Flat
The most important rule: maintain a flat surface. Peaks and valleys create problems. Gaps underneath blocks are nearly impossible to fill.
2. Look at the Next Piece
Always check the preview showing the next piece. Plan where your current piece AND the next piece will go. This prevents bad situations.
3. Save a Column for the I-Piece
Keep one column empty (usually the rightmost) to slot in the I-piece and clear 4 lines at once. This "Tetris" gives maximum points.
Quick tip: Clearing 4 lines at once (Tetris) gives 800 × level points. Single line only gives 100 × level. That's 8× more efficient!
Speed Tips
4. Use Hard Drop
Press Space to instantly drop a piece. It's much faster than waiting for it to fall. Essential for high scores and Sprint mode.
5. Don't Overthink
At higher speeds, a fast "good enough" move beats a slow perfect move. Trust your instincts and keep pieces flowing.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Creating holes: Gaps under blocks are very hard to fill
- Building too high on one side: Unbalanced stacks limit your options
- Panicking: Stay calm when speed increases
- Ignoring the preview: Always plan one piece ahead
Sprint Mode Strategy
In Sprint 40L, the goal is speed, not score:
- Use hard drop exclusively
- Don't wait for Tetrises—clear any lines quickly
- Keep the stack low for faster piece spawns
- Focus on the game, not the timer
Practice
The best way to improve is playing. Try these:
- Warm up with Classic mode at comfortable speed
- Challenge yourself with Impossible mode for reflexes
- Do Sprint 40L runs to improve speed
